(East Los Angeles, CA) May 21, 2022 [From The Editor’s Desk]: Greetings To All, this is an update to the NCAA’s D-1 Orlando Regional Softball Tournament elimination game between the Summit League’s South Dakota State University (SDSU) Jackrabbits and the Big East’s Villanova Wildcats that was suspended on Saturday, 5/21, due to severe thunder and electrical storm weather systems that popped up in the greater Orlando, FL area.

(Brief Game Summary): Villanova took an early (1-0) lead as pitcher, Paige Rauch scored on a wild pitch in the top of the first inning. SDSU tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second inning with a two-out rally. Allison Yoder doubled to right-center and later scored on Peyton Daugherty’s single up the middle.

(Of Significance): Coming up with stellar defensive performances were the Palmdale, CACarrillo sisters. First it was SS/Rozelyn, when on a shallow fly to short left, she tracked it down from her position, then totally “stretched out” and caught it. Next, CF/Jocelyn, at the crack of the bat, sprinted to perfectly time her stretched out body onto the grass, made a diving “head-first” catch of a low and sinking liner, and robbed the hitter of base hit. All to Head Coach Krista Wood’s strong approval of her team’s leaders.

The contest was suspended in the bottom of the fourth. Then after a three hour delay, the game was re-started only to be postponed again after completing the Jackrabbits’ half of the fifth inning when the lightning strikes were confirmed to be within the (8) mile range of the game site. The eventual winner of this suspended game will face Michigan right after a short rest-period. That winner will face UCF in a final double elimination format for the right to move on to the Super Regionals in a “Best of 3” format.

But going back to the actual game stoppage, the NCAA had informed its Umpiring Crew Chief to officially postpone the game till tomorrow at 10:00 AM/Eastern Time, (7:00 AM/Pacific Time). And that is when everyone will come back together again

(Special Note From The Editor): In this partial-game story we are presenting to all of our regular viewers, and those who have just recently come on-board with us, a short photo gallery of yesterday’s Jackrabbits vs. the Michigan Wolverines, (2-1).
