Roosevelt Opens Eastern League With Third Consecutive Win

Riders Now Ranked 10th Under Sanctioned L.A. City Section Poll

(East Los Angeles/Boyle Heights, CA) September 22, 2021 [From The Editor’s Desk]: The Rough Riders, now (4-1) overall, (1-0) in league, took control of their 2021 Eastern League opening game against the Legacy Tigers in the first quarter and never looked back as they cruised to a predictable win, with the final score showing (48-0). The Riders return home for a tough “match-up” with the Spartans from Huntington Park, who come into the game this Friday, with a (3-2) record. Kick-off is set for 7:00 pm.

(Brief Game Summary): Doing a lot of good work in this game was the Senior/#3/Eddie German who scored twice, with his longest run of the game at 45 yards. His second was  from 35 yards out, giving the Riders a (14-0) lead in the period. German’s game stat-line was extremely impressive as he turned in quite a display of his running skills. He scored (12) points, rushed 8 times for (194) yds/ave. rush per carry was (24.3) yds. and his All-purpose yardage stat reflected a whopping (248).

Next up it was Junior/#4/Jared Andrade who continued on his TD spree through his first 5 games by adding two more in this game. His game performance was also quite consistent, impressive, and reflected the following numbers on offense: (14) points scored/(132) All-purpose yards/(6) carries for (110) yds./ave. per carry, (18.3) yds/longest run, (42 yds). On defense, he was credited with (7) tackles.

Finally, Junior/#9/Alex Arroyo, managed to add two more TDs to his season totals. He finished this game with (20) points scored/(72) All-purpose yds/5 carries for (72) yds/ave. per carry (14.4) yds/longest run (39) yds. On defense, he was credited with an eye-opening (15) tackles. Rounding out the running attack was Senior/#2/Julian Quezada who is 100% healthy again. He turned in the following double-digit stats: (68) All-purpose yds/4 carries for (68) yds/ave. per carry (17.0) yds/longest run (16 yds).

The Riders were able to move the ball at will, thanks in large part to their timely execution of Head Coach Aldo Parral’s “double wing” offense, with a few wrinkles also thrown in for good measure to freeze and distract their opponents on defense. Speaking of the Riders shut-out defense, Senior/#10/Carlos Velazquez continues to put in great work on each outing as he earned himself (12) tackles, followed by Senior/#20/Jimmy Morales with (10), and Junior/#50/Alejandro Aguilar-Ibarra with (8).

In addition to racking up the 6 TDs, the 2-Point Conversion Unit was perfect on the night as they added a total of (12) more points, making the final point count, (48)—(36) coming on the TDs, and (12) on the conversion attempts.

(FINAL SCORE): Roosevelt  48  Legacy  0
