LAFC Earns Draw On Vela Goal

Team Focus Is On Start Of New Win Streak

(East Los Angeles, CA) [From The Editor’s Desk]: The Black & Gold finished their quick 2-match road trip with a loss and a draw. The loss came to Dallas FC, and the draw with the Minnesota United FC on 9/13, earning themselves 1 point. Granted that the Club has: 1) already clinched a playoff spot; and 2) has been going through some “ups and downs,” but nothing to really shake up the team’s confidence of going deep into the playoffs as the regular season winds down.

And guess what? They’re back home on Sunday to take on the Houston Dynamo. Kick-off is set for 7:30 PM. To watch the match on TV: KCOP 13 and Estrella 62. To Listen on Radio: 710 AM ESPN / ESPN LA app and 980 AM La Mera Mera.


{Of Special Significance} LAFC will celebrate Latin American Heritage Night presented by Estrella TV with special in-stadium events and performances, including a post-game fireworks show. Do make your plans early enough to get a great seat and see afantastic show. Tickets are still available but moving briskly.

Now, let’s take a good look at the post-match announcement given the Club’s Communication Department.

      LAFC came from behind to earn a 1-1 tie against Minnesota United FC in Saint Paul on Tuesday night. LAFC’s 19-8-4 record (61 points) is still the best in the Western Conference, and the Black & Gold can clinch the top seed in the West this week if Austin FC lose or draw to Real Salt Lake on Wednesday night.

     LAFC fell behind just before the half when Brent Kallman scored for the Loons in the 45th minute giving the home team a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

     Carlos Vela leveled the score with a signature left footed blast that found the back of the net from distance in the 64th minute.

  • The tie puts LAFC in a position to clinch the Western Conference title this week, pending the result of the Austin FC vs Real Salt Lake game on Wednesday. A tie or RSL win will lock up LAFC’s position atop the conference.
  • LAFC Captain Carlos Vela scored his ninth goal of the season.
  • Vela’s second half goal was the league-leading 42nd second half goal for the Black & Gold.
  • LAFC’s newest addition, Cristian Tello made his MLS debut on Tuesday, Sept. 13, entering the match in the 62nd minute.
